Dmitry Permyakov

Dmitry's talent has been appreciated in Russia and abroad, his work can be found in private collections in Russia, Europe and the US.

Art has been his passion since childhood, Dmitry says. "My first art instructor was a Vyatka artist V. Y. Popov," Dmitry Permyakov recalls. "Once, after I, still a young boy, got absolutely overwhelmed by the stagnation in the art of that time when everyone just copied Mikhail Tkachev and other artists like him, I thought I was not going to paint any longer. And Mr. Popov scolded me and said he would punish me for saying that. All joking aside, since then I have been working hard on learning more and making art." He has been especially passionate about realistic art, and he is most of all fascinated by artists of the Leningrad school of the 1960s. Perhaps Dmitry had inherited his love to this kind of art from his teacher E. S. Grishin, student of Soviet painter and graphic artist E.A. Kibrik. Or perhaps he has had this love in him since his birth, impressed by the Russian land.

Continuing his work in the Russian academic tradition, the artist introduces his own personality and style into his work. Mr. Permyakov's art stands out with its gentle strokes, vibrant and intense colors, monumental scale and delicate psychology of images. His works are never sweetly lyrical or sentimental; he seeks to show the objective picture of life, be it serene and simple landscapes or rural life scenes showing everyday life of Russian people. For instance, one of his canvases shows a woman who sits on a stool cleaning a heap of fish laying before her on the floor; and on the other canvas, a man, possibly her husband, is seen ice-fishing, with a bottle of vodka next to him to keep him warm.
