Five Quarters

Molbert Gallery Presents Teacher and Students Series Exhibition: Weaving Course, Children's Art School No. 13, led by Irina Shigabutdinova (since 1997).

The exciting world of applied art develops in the students the sense of style, understanding of expressive traditions of the decorative composition, decorative color and shape solutions. It is a challenging task for children to create generalizations of natural forms, manage their impressions and produce artistic imagery.  Their training program develops these skills and encourages their flight of fancy. The students work freely and creatively with various materials and in different techniques:  tapestry weaving, machine-weaving, collage-making, sewing, etc. The exhibition presents various decorations based on the same topic and technique, as well as works of art representing different topics, techniques and materials. The exposition also includes drawings made by students.

Their teacher, Irina Shigabutdinova, presents her works along with her students. The central idea and the texture of her works reflect the delicate interplay of light and shadow of the seaside landscape, the borderline of water and sand, sky and sea, sparkling reflections and changeable nature. The works have been presented in the mixed technique of embroidery and manual weaving, with use of natural materials.

The name "Five Quaters" bears rich symbolic meaning. It refers to four quarters of the academic year and a summer plain-air practicum. It also alludes to the name of the famous composition of Dave Brubeck, which is associated with creative freedom, innovation, unconventional and captivating rhythm.
